“Let’s talk.” It’s an invitation, a call to action and one of the most important stigma-fighting mental health initiatives put on every year by Bell Canada. This year on January 30, 2019, Bell Let’s Talk Day, there are lots of ways to get involved, with Bell donating 5 cents for every text, call, tweet, social video view, Facebook frame or Snapchat filter use. That money goes towards mental health initiatives in Canada, which is a really important cause that benefits the community.
To support this initiative, Bell has a toolkit available on their website which includes a conversation guide, detailed information on the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace, tools for educators and students and social media assets you can use to help promote this important upcoming event. If you’re someone who is in need of help, Bell also has a handy list of resources on their website.
Bell Let’s Talk Day started in 2010 and so far has raised $93,423,628.80 – that’s a lot of money for a great cause. Even better, it’s got people talking, de-stigmatizing mental health issues and building common ground and understanding.
This normalization of mental health related discussions gives more space for people to reach out to people they love to talk about their own struggles. The use of celebrity spokespeople also drives home the message that it’s not a shameful thing to need help and that mental health issues can affect anyone.
Our team will be joining in for this special day. They will be sharing their personal stories of times that they needed help because we want to support this important initiative and lend our voices to a movement that is important to us. We hope you follow along. “Let’s talk” is an invitation to support change, promote wellness and de-stigmatize mental health. Will you “RSVP” yes and participate?
